6月4日 Team Leader Update: On the Ground in ChinaHello. Debby Fry Wilson here. We are on the ground in China and have just concluded our first day of bringing technology to a new area of China. We spent the day in rural Miyun County, about two hours by car outside of Beijing. From the moment we landed we have been thinking about the plight of those families impacted by the recent earthquake, and everything we read and see on television underscores their desperate need. As we prepare for the Gobi March, of course we want to encourage folks to donate to Save the Children, which is also already helping the relief effort in China by providing education and protection; temporary schools and school rehabilitation; school supplies; and psychosocial support and teacher training. I’m pleased to report that Microsoft China has already been working diligently to help Sichuan Province through the earthquake recovery by immediately providing technical services, cash and financial resources after the quake hit, and is ready to contribute PCs and other technology to help the government’s rebuilding efforts. So far Microsoft and its staff have donated more than $3 million to these efforts, and we are also providing financial resources to help rebuild the schools, educational and training programs in the disaster area. Education is a key component of Unlimited Potential, the team I work on, and whose mission is to bring the benefits of technology, alongside training and education, to the 5-billion people across the globe who have not been exposed to this. Microsoft has also donated to the China Youth Development Foundation to build temporary classrooms for children in the Sichuan and Gansu provinces. The fund will be used to provide more than 80 mobile classrooms, each of which is capable of hosting 50 students. We have also partnered with leading local OEM, Founder, as well as a local school and education department, to launch the Founder Windows PC for Education. The launch took place today, June 4, at an event in Miyun county outside Beijing, and is part of the overall Rural Education PC Program. Take a look at the photo slideshow on this page to see more. The Founder Windows PC for Education will have Windows Vista and Windows Live preinstalled, along with new learning software tailored for the Chinese education market. Learning documentation will be provided for both parents and students, as will some basic computing and Windows Vista training especially designed for the first-time PC users and their families. Giving these children access to the power of technology is a key way in which we can help them realize their full potential. Another initiative, the Microsoft CRD Charity Soccer Cup, also started on May 29. It is a series of charity games to benefit the earthquake victims and kids. All the proceeds will go towards buying soccer balls or related sports equipment for Wenchuan affected schools. In addition, more than 6-million MSN users have already taken in the MSN special Rainbow donation initiative focused at school rebuilding efforts. We are at the Beijing airport right now, awaiting our flight to Urumqi, the capital of Xinxiang Province, in Western China, where we will be doing more to improve access to technology, education and training in rural areas. So please follow along with us. 评论 (6)引用通告此日志的引用通告 URL 是: http://upteam.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D937024BE1A53531!317.trak 引用此项的网络日志
